MALAYSIA IDENTIFIED OVER USD113 MILLION WORTH OF INNOVATION PROJECTS DURING WEEK 3 OF EXPO 2017 ASTANA
3 JULY 2017, Astana, Kazakhstan – The business matching sessions held during the “Green Innovation: Powering the Future” Week organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, Malaysia (MOSTI) at the Malaysia Pavilion here at EXPO 2017, saw potential collaboration in bio-based and innovation projects worth more than USD113 million between Malaysian companies and their counterparts from Kazakhstan, India, China and Switzerland.
Zainal Azman Abu Kasim, Project Director & Senior Vice-President of BioIndustrial, Bioeconomy Corporation, commented: “I am happy at the outcome of the Green Innovation Week at EXPO 2017 and impressed with the eagerness of Malaysian bio-based and innovation companies to explore the Central Asia market. The many meetings and business matching sessions that we have had for the past one week has resulted in the exchange of 5 Memorandums of Understanding valued at more than USD113 million.”
“We had close to 34,000 guests visiting the Malaysia Pavilion during Green Innovation Week, and a total of 20 Business Matching activities taking place between all three agencies Bioeconomy Corporation, SIRIM & YIM. We expect more collaborations and contract signings in the next few weeks as some of them are still finalizing details of their collaborations.”
In total, five Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged during Green Innovation Week, including:
- Ronser Biotech (a BioNexus Status company) exchanged an MOU with MEC LLP, appointing them as the exclusive representative to distribute Wastewater Treatment Solutions product and services, targeting to achieve USD20 million in market shares in 3 years into Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Its core business is to treat Palm Oil Mill effluent. A sewerage plant project in Astana with a value of USD3 million was established at EXPO 2017 as well. A final MOU was signed between KazBiotechnologies with Ronser for treating sewerage, which is discharged into the river.
- iCYCLE Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which deals in online waste management applications and solutions from the source, and sponsored by Multimedia University (MMU) 2016, exchanged MOUs worth USD250,000 with representatives from GuangZhou TianHe area and Kerala, India. The counterpart from GuangZhou will develop a Chinese version application and the joint venture in India is at licensing in-kind. India will provide all other local setup with this collaboration. iCYCLE also met with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan during Green Innovation Week to discuss possible waste management for Astana, who has indicated interest to visit iCYCLE systems in Malaysia.
- Free the Seed Sdn Bhd, a manufacturer of biodegradable packaging, made from rice husks and straws, that serves as an alternative to polystyrene and plastic containers, exchanged an MOU worth US30 million with Nusantara LLP estimated to be realised in two years. The bio-based company has put the spotlight on the use of Malaysia’s indigenous resources, such as rice, to elevate Malaysia’s green innovation.
- he collaboration between Nanopac and Swiss-based GC Global Consulting GMBH sees the latter promoting Nanopac’s Nanotechnology and Hybrid Solar System technologies in residential and commercial projects.
The development of this Energy Management System with Nanopac’s Nanotech self-sustainable energy technology and Green construction through Nanopac’s Nanotech – NLEP, NPV and SSTS — system will be implemented for all GC developments. The Nanotechnology project is worth more than USD60 million to be realized in 3 years.
Among the other companies that showcased their products and services at EXPO 2017 were:
- Cube Global, a natural forest and forestry management system. Cube Global (Malaysia Commercialisation Year – MCY 2016 winner) will generate income via the ‘SMS to the tree’ service, which enables the tree to reply and certain charges apply as there will be a solution to maintain the tree to generate the income. During Green Innovation Week, Cube Global connected with Nazerbayav University in Kazakhstan to discuss collaborations.
- Muhibbah Synergy Resources (MSR), an engineering and product manufacturer with a core business of producing custom mass production consumer products focusing on Halal and organic products, in line with focus of ‘Enlivening the Sunnah‘. The company connected with Halal Toyiban LLP, who is keen to explore purchasing the company’s My Gigi Cleaner (MYGIC) Pensugi for the 2,500 mosques in Central Asia. Additionaly, Angola is interested to be the sole distributor for the African nations, while a Kazakh company, which is one of the sole distributors to pharmacies and retail stores in neighbouring countries, is interested in MSR’s Prayer chairs for the disabled, MyGIC Pensugi and Attar perfumery.
