#SCIENCEforWATER: Effective Solutions for Achieving SDG6 and Water-related Goals and Targets of the 2030

Joint #UNESCO AND JRC (EC Joint Research Centre) Information Session with participation of the President of the General Assembly at the United Nations Conference Room# 5, NYC (Feb. 20, 2018).

In the context of the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development (2018 – 2028), the meeting informed Member States on the collective contributions of UNESCO and JRC to the Implementation of SDG 6 and other water-related goals and targets.

To my son John Unver’s 21^st Birthday…

It was exactly fifteen years before this event that
the Passport of World Citizenship had grabbed my attention…
I had first seen it among his prizes in the library of Sir Arthur C. Clarke
at the Barnes Place in Colombo,
during my first visit on December 20, 2002…

Poetic Diary – I. While I was in New York about one-and-a-half to two-years ago…

There is a perception that everything exists in the universe as if it has been reflected through the mind of mankind…

I was in a forest densely filled with very tall and wide pine trees
There was a hillside at the entrance of the forest…
Just like the one at the entrance of the Forest Park by the Park Lane
which is 10 minutes from where I live

However, all the pine trees on the hillside were uprooted and carried away
The earth in the denuded open area was still very fresh and wet
As if it was fallowed that day with the purpose of farming!

I.
Many people used to mention the impossibility of interviewing you…
Once I was influenced by your vision, I wanted to interview you…

At that time, I had read in the newspapers that you were in New York…
I had immediately found out where you were staying and called
This hotel happened to be the one where you had written the book “2001: Space Odyssey”
Much later, I also found out that in front of the hotel wall,
there is a placket in your name that refers you’ve written the “2001: Space Odyssey” there…

Girmiştim bir kez vizyonunun etki alanına ve bir röportaj yapmak istiyordum…
Bir gazetede okumuştum New York’ta olduğunu o sıralar…
Hemen otelini öğrenip aramıştım ki, bu otel “2001: Uzay Macerası”nı da yazmış olduğun
Adına bir Plaket’in de duvarında asılı olduğunu da çok sonradan öğrenmiş olduğum bir otel…
Ve ne büyük bir rastlantı ki, New York’a 1990 yılında ilk ayak bastığım ve benim de kalmış olduğum oteldi, Hotel Chelsa…
Haberi okur okumaz hemen aramıştım oteli…
Maalesef o sabah ayrılmıştın Sri Lanka’ya dönmek üzere
Çok üzülmüştüm ama yapacak bir şey de yoktu o an…

GİRİŞ: [28-29 Ekim 2017, İstanbul] Bu denemeye ilham veren konu, Elazığ, Fırat Üniversitesi’nde sunumu gerçekleştirilmiş olan “SANATIN LABİRENTLERİNDEN ~ IŞIK YOLLARINA: Sürdürülebilir İnsani Gelişme, Kültür ve Gelecek” adlı söyleşiye yine Elazığ’dan katılmış olan YERELCE ve ÜLKECE’nin yazarlarından Münir Kebir Bey ile sanal bir tanışıklığın gerçekliğe dönüşmesidir. Aynı zamanda, Elazığ’da geçirdiğim son günü köylerindeki evlerinde bir köy kahvaltısı ile başlayan ve Keban Barajı’nı birlikte görmeyi de içeren, öz’de bir güne damgasını vurmuş olan sımsıcacık bir ev sahipliği ve misavirperverlik ile Belçika merkezli Yerelce‘nin kurucusu ve yayın yönetmeni olan yılların gazetecisi ve editörü Nusret Özgül’ün, yine Yerelce kanalıyla, dünyanın farklı noktalarında olan yazarları arasında yapmış olduğu “Kelebek Etkisi” nedeniyle, bu deneme, değerli meslekdaş ve dost Nusret Özgül ve Yerelce‘ye ithaf edilmiştir.

I knew her for a long time, going back decades.

I tried to recall one of her qualities that left the greatest impression on me and it was difficult.

She had many good traits.
Her intellect was extraordinary.
